Chelsea Survive Sunderland

Chelsea Survive Sunderland
Sunderland 0-1 Chelsea

Chelsea were distinctly second best at the Stadium of Light, but an early goal from John Terry and some last gasp defending saw them pick up a narrow but hugely significant win.

The Blues went into the game knowing they could pull to within two points of Arsenal with a win, and seemed to start well as John Terry gave them an early lead.

The Chelsea skipper was picked out superbly by Frank Lampard, and rose highest to head home in the 10th minute.

However, that was their highlight for the entire 90 minutes, as Sunderland raised their game and dominated much of the play thereafter.

They could and should have taken at least a draw from the game, but superb defending from man-of-the-match John Terry - and some shambolic finishing from Kenwyne Jones and company - meant that they ended the game on the losing side.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are now just three points behind leaders Manchester United. Arsenal can go five clear again, but will have played a game extra.
