Grant And Fergie Do Battle Over Fixtures

Grant And Fergie Do Battle Over Fixtures
The war of words between Avram Grant and Sir Alex Ferguson has continued, with the Israeli branding the United boss 'a joke' for having no sympathy for Chelsea's fixture congestion.

The Blues are livid that they must play Wigan on Monday, 14th April for TV reasons before travelling to Everton on the Thursday night.

That leaves the west London side only three days to prepare for their next fixture whereas the majority of sides, including Manchester United, will get at least six days rest.

What A Joke

Yesterday Chelsea boss Avram Grant was fuming as the news of Fergie's less-than-sympathetic comments trickled through. “It must be a joke," roared the Israeli. "What day is it today? April Fool’s Day? I like Alex very much but ...”

Stop Complaining

Fergie had insisted Chelsea should keep quiet, adding that they benefited from others' fixture congestion last season and still didn't win the title. The Scot was refering to Chelsea's win over a Spurs side who had played a UEFA Cup game in Seville just 36 hours earlier, something nobody at Stamford Bridge complained about.

"Two games in three days and then they have five days to prepare for their possible Champions League semi-final - well that is all right," commented Fergie of Chelsea's predicament. "They got an advantage over us last season - and it still didn’t stop us winning the Premier League.”

Chelsea are five points behind United in the Premiership table, with a home game against the Red Devils later this month, but for now attentions turn to Turkey and tonight's Champions League quarter-final first leg at Fenerbahce.
